Handbuilding Short Course (5 Lessons)
Short Course
Handbuilding is ceramics in its most personal form. With only your hands and simple tools, you’ll learn four fundamental techniques, plus a final glazing class to complete your creations. Every piece you make carries your touch, your character, and your story.
Lesson 1 – Slab: Mini Houses
Shape flat slabs of clay into little houses. Add doors, windows, or textures – each one can be playful, rustic, or modern, reflecting your imagination.
Lesson 2 – Pinch: Salt & Pepper Shakers with Character
By gently pinching clay between your fingers, you’ll form a pair of quirky shakers. Everyday items become expressive and full of charm.
Lesson 3 – Coil: Vase or Cup
Stack and blend coils of clay to build form. Choose to create a sculptural vase or a characterful cup – every curve and join shows the rhythm of your hands.
Lesson 4 – Mold: Plates & Bowls
Explore how clay takes on soft forms using molds. From simple bowls to expressive plates, this class blends function with individuality.
Lesson 5 – Glazing Class
Return to bring your pieces to life with color. Learn basic glazing techniques to add depth, contrast, and personality – turning your greenware into finished ceramics.
🎁 Free Firing: Includes up to 2kg (greenware weight). Fired pieces will be ready to take home as lasting keepsakes.
✨ Why Handbuilding? Unlike wheel-throwing, handbuilding is slower and more intuitive. Each pinch, press, and join leaves a trace of you in the clay. It’s fun, tactile, and full of character – the joy lies not in perfection, but in the unique details that make your pieces truly one-of-a-kind.
